Think clearly before choosing a tool.

This page is for readers who are new to OSINT or new to CSINT. The aim is simple: define the input, ask a clear question, then follow a safe workflow.

I am new

Start with the decision tree and a short workflow. Do not begin with a long tool list.

I need a source

Example task

Turn a real public event into a small OSINT note.

The example uses the Ever Given blockage in the Suez Canal. The point is not to retell the news. The point is to separate visible evidence, interpretation, limits, and the next check.

Case note: Ever Given / Suez Canal
Question: What do open sources show about the blockage?

Visible evidence:
- Satellite imagery and vessel tracking show the ship in the canal.
- Public reporting and official imagery support the event timeline.

Limit:
- This note does not assign legal fault or intent.

Next check:
- Compare official authority statements, satellite imagery, and reliable reporting.

Rule of thumb

A source is useful only when you can explain what it shows, what it does not show, and what still needs another check.
