The order I follow

Work through the steps in order.

Write the exact claim
Capture the claim, time, source, and link.
The claim is not rewritten stronger than it appears.
Find primary sources
Look for official statements, direct witnesses, datasets, or original documents.
Syndicated copies are not counted as independent sources.
Build a small timeline
Record first report, later updates, corrections, and official notes.
Time zones are clear.
Report status carefully
Use confirmed, reported, disputed, or unverified.
The status matches the evidence.
