Image

Is this image old, new, or out of context?

A workflow for checking earlier copies, visual clues, and the claim attached to an image.

Goal

Separate what the image shows from what the post claims it proves.

Best for

News verification, social media claims, and reused images.

Inputs

Image, Image URL, Claimed date or location

Steps

01

Write the claim

Describe the claim in one neutral sentence.

Check: The image and the claim are not mixed.

02

Search for older copies

Use more than one reverse-image or archive source.

Check: Dates and publishers are recorded.

03

List visible clues

Separate signs, buildings, roads, terrain, weather, and shadows from interpretation.

Check: Clues and guesses are separate.

04

Add a confidence label

Use verified, likely, possible, unverified, or false.

Check: Supporting and weakening points are both visible.

Output

Image verification note, earlier-copy candidates, context assessment, and confidence level.

Report line

The image supports only the visible scene; the attached claim needs date, source, and context checks.
